| Testing |
What is testing? Testing is a specific type of investigation for housing discrimination. Usually, two individuals visit the same rental property at different times. They are alike in all their characteristics except for one, which is the variable being tested. They carefully document their experience. Then, their experiences are compared to see if they received the same information and quality of service. Volunteer testers help us conduct our investigations.
What do testers do?
Volunteer testers, posing as an interested renter, call a landlord, or maybe visit a rental unit, and then carefully document their experience. The documentation shows the quality of information and service provided to each volunteer.
Why do we test?
This documentation can become evidence in an illegal housing discrimination case. It also gathers important information about the housing market. Testing is much like 'mystery shopping' for the housing market -- it's fun, undercover and vitally important to our program.
How can I become a volunteer tester?
Volunteers must attend a training session and complete a practice test. For more information, please contact our Investigations Coordinator at: 808-527-8017
