How do you know if you have been discriminated against?  Here is a few examples from some of our common complaints.

• “You don’t read English?  Sign this document, you don’t need to know what it says”
• “Sorry, but this is a no-keiki building.”
• “I’m not sure you would be comfortable in this neighborhood.”
• “I know the ad said the rent was $900, but I’m telling you it is $1200.”
• “You said you needed your stove fixed? Well, how badly do you want it honey?”
• “I understand that you need a guide dog, but this is a ‘no-pet’ building.”
• “Families with children are not allowed to live on the second floor.”
• “Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! Of course, you will have to pay an extra $50 per month.”
• “You can look at the apartment if you want, but I’ll tell you right now. There
are no other Chinese people in the building.”
• “I’m sorry, but we can’t reserve a parking space for you just because you are disabled.”
• “We can provide you an accommodation for your disability but it will cost a little extra money”
• “I think you would be more comfortable living in this unit because everyone there speaks your language”
