The purpose of the Fair Housing Act is to prevent housing discrimination in all housing transactions and to promote integration.

STATE LAW. The State of Hawai‘i has enacted its own fair housing statute, codified as Hawai‘i Revised Statute Chapter 515. In addition to the protections afforded by the Fair Housing Act, state laws prohibit housing discrimination on the basis of ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. (NOTE: The state-only protected classes are designated with an asterisk where appropriate).
