Filing a Complaint of Housing Discrimination with HUD If you have experienced housing discrimination from a housing provider and the discriminatory act occurred more than 180 days (approximately six months) and less than 365 days ago, you may file a complaint with HUD so that a determination can be issued regarding your complaint.
If a determination is issued in your favor, then HUD will attempt to reach a settlement with the housing provider. If a settlement cannot be reached, and HUD has issued a determination in your favor, then you will have the right to pursue legal action against the housing provider in court.
If you feel that a housing provider has discriminated against you for any of the reasons (Federally Protected Classes) listed below, then you may file a complaint with HUD.
